Skygge are a band from Norway that plays a very raw form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Antiqua Ignis" which was released by Immortal Frost Productions.
A very dark and raw black metal sound starts off the album along with some blast beats, high pitched screams which also bring a lot of anger onto the recording and an evil atmosphere and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and also bring back some of the early to mid 90's feeling of Norwegian black metal.
You can hear a great amount of raw aggression coming out of the fast tremolo picking along with a decent amount of melody being utilized at times and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs sound a lot more raw, darker and evil than most of their fellow countrymen and as the album progresses you can hear some first wave black metal elements being mixed in with the second wave influence at times.while a alter track also b rings in a small amount of melodic, ritualistic chants and there is never a soft or weak moment to be heard in any of the songs
Skygge plays a style of black metal that is very raw and brings in an influence from the early 90's bands while also being very atmospheric with traditional instruments alone and also having a very dark and evil feeling from beginning to end, the production sounds very dark, raw and heavy while the lyrics which are mostly written in Norwegian along with a few in English cover the death of the old and creating ones new self through the ancient primordial fires of Hecate and Lucifer.
In my opinion Skygge are a very great sounding raw, occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Antiqua Ignis" "Draconis Serpentis" "Necro Attitude" and "Skyggen". 8 out of 10.
