Indoctrinate Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Hails to Occult Black Metal and their fans! First of all, thanks for getting in touch with us. As INDOCTRINATE we define ourselves as a band of primitive, obscure and rudimentary Death/Black Metal.

2.You have your first album coming out in September, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?

Well, “Antilogos: Arcane Transmutation In The Temple Of Flesh” is our full length debut album in which somehow we show the years of war we had within SADISTIK GOATHAMMER by adding experience and new knowledge we gain during this 10 years of blasphemy. This is our sound with which we would like to represent our conception of the Black Metal. In order to achieve this final result we had several attempts of recording and mixing until we finally had that organic, cavernous and honest sound we were looking for. Without compromises or by abusing effects like reverb or other things that are so well received these days. The influences are very clear since the beginning; we incorporate classic elements of bands from the Black/Death or War Metal genre like BLASPHEMY, SARCOFAGO, ABHORER, ARCHGOAT, etc... But we also have that typical Death Metal sound from the 90ies. All that being executed on the most simple and direct way.

3.The band formed out of the ashes of 'Sadistik Goathammer' what was the cause of the split and also the decision behind forming a new band?

Being honest I need to say, that SADISTIK GOATHAMMER was, in the very first step, the primary, exalted and honest impulse. But also an immature and childish one in terms that the sense of that creative energy that created that entity was just the goal of continuing the musical and aesthetic offerings created by other characteristic standards of the genre.

As a response to that origin and intention, necessary in every evolutive process, INDOCTRINATE raises up under a much more elevated slogan. Characterized by the compulsive search in delivering materiality in the here & now of this putrid flat to the archetypes that lay in the most ominous putridity of the collective subconscious. Paradoxically, this search, perennial, infertile and heartbreaking, is the inexhaustible source that explains the death of SADISTIK GOATHAMMER and the creation of INDOCTRINATE from his corpse.

4. A lot of your lyrics cover Occultism themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

As most of the people dealing actively with these things, my personal interest for the occultism originates from the disappointment in the modernity and his historical project based on the instrumental reason. When it becomes clear that the occidental reason is no more than a myth embarrassed by it’s own origin (the flesh, the impure), the descent begins, the fall into the inner spheres, where the Eros is one with the death in constant continuity, the paths, the methodology, the tradition or the symbols to follow will depend on the experiences, rules and will of each individual. Finally in the death everything is one!!

5.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

Personally I feel some attraction for universal themes of the human existence, apart from the cultural conditionings. I consider the humanity as a part of a higher system, that is being created based on normal experiences (many of them being traumatic and violent) that are being sublimated and crystalized in systems of beliefs, archetypes, rituals and taboos. Being this reverse side not recognized of the occidental reason, the field of interest that is being “explored” (and I couldn't agree more on that) in “Antilogos: Arcane Transmutation In The Temple Of Flesh”.

“ For many it is necessary to bury and forget that sometime they had a memory. Because, even though that their presence is not of this world, it’s more threatening and the emptiness of the absence itself. “

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Indoctrinate'?

As I told you before, the pulsation behind INDOCTRINATE is the compulsive search of knowledge and experiences far from the axioms that chain our human “naturality”.

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

The human sacrifice, as the maximum affirmation of the life even in death, the importance of this practice not only implies the ceremonial transgression of one of the fundamental prohibitions of the human coexistence, for us it also represents an ontological ambivalent experience, were the sacred and the horror conjugate into a violent communion. It constitutes the highest expression of the Eros through the revelation of the emptiness in the sacrifice object. Cursed origin, unknown and occult, obscure human nature!!!

The scene itself it’s very explicit and leaves less space for speculation. Daniel Hermosilla (Nox Fragor), Chilean artist, did a masterful job! He captured the concept in the most rustic and primitive possible way.

8.Has the band done any shows or open to the idea?

I personally think that the Black Metal HAS TO BE EXECUTED LIVE, otherwise it’s just an expression without spirit, belonging to this secularized modernity.

9.Currently the band is signed to 'Unholy Prophecies', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Well, I’ve been in touch with Walter (UNHOLY PROPHECIES owner) through eMail were I could share with him my proposal and I got a positive reception from his side. He offered us a deal every band in my country would love to have and also a very professional treatment for a release with this characteristics. I can tell you that UNHOLY PROPHECIES is a label dedicated to Extreme Metal in his different slopes that, even though it has a preference for old school Death Metal, knows to identify good bands outside this spectrum. This is something I really like because many labels tend to keep in their comfort zone or just sign bands that play what is currently a “fast-seller” or just re-release already well known material. Hails UNHOLY PROPHECIES.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of war metal?

We don’t have any impressions yet, the CD was just released but I’m pretty sure we will be able to mark our territory with this offering that differs a bit from the rigid and frequently precarious parameters of todays “War Metal” bands.

11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the other band members are a part of?

Currently we are not involved in other projects being INDOCTRINATE our only priority. That explains why from 2019 onwards, the lineups finally went separate ways; HENOSIS on the one side, INDOCTRINATE on the other. But we are still keeping an excellent relationship between us. And we collaborate with each other. HENOSIS just released a new single called “Annatta” on which they treat themes linked to Gnosticism from the angle of Buddhism and they are currently recording their second full length.

On the other hand INTERITVM (Omega’s personal project; he is the lead guitarist of INDOCTRINATE)recorded an EP called “Reign Of Nuclear Apocalypse” in 2017, we build up a lineup for a release that year but there is no more information to share about that project yet.

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We want to deepen the path chosen, there is no return into the perpetuous fall of the constant involution.

Currently we are finishing the process of composition of our second full length and all I can say about it is that compositional and conceptual wise it’s completely different that what was offered on “Antilogos: Arcane Transmutation In The Temple Of Flesh”. We have no compromises nor attachments, we just obey the opinions that are being whispered from the abyss of our no-being.

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

In general classic bands from the Death and Black Metal. You know bands like INCANTATION, IMMOLATION, ANGEL CORPSE, BLASPHEMY, SADISTIC INTENT, MORBID ANGEL, old-IMPALED NAZARENE, PROFANATICA, MAYHEM, MYSTIFIER, CONQUEROR, KATHARSIS, etc... Currently I listen to almost the same bands I did during my adolescence. I would say that my preferences did not change that much. From the current bands I listen quite often to DEAD CONGREGATION, DIOCLETIAN, ARCHGOAT, REVENGE among other similar hordes.

From my country I currently listen to CENOTAFIO, HENOSIS, MALEDICTUM, VOMIT, ANCIENT CRYPTS, DEATHWARDS just to mention a few. It’s already know that Chile is a powerful nation when it comes to the production of Extreme Metal in the different slopes.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Nothing to add, just many thanks for this black propaganda.
