Firienholt are a band from the united Kingdom that plays an epic and atmospheric form of black metal with elements of dungeon synth and this is a review of their 2021 album "By the Waters Of Awakening" which will be released in June by Naturmacht Productions.
A dungeon synth orientated sound starts off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. All of the drum beats are programmed while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
Clean vocals can also be heard in some parts of the recording while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. At times the music also captures the atmosphere of a fantasy movie soundtrack as well as utilizing a variety of many different sounding keys which also gives the album more of an atmospheric feeling, when the music finally speeds up on a couple of songs a small amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard.
Firienholt plays a musical style that takes a very epic and atmospheric form of black metal and mixes it with dungeon synth to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover fantasy themes.
In my opinion Firienholt are a very great sounding epic mixture of atmospheric black metal and dungeon synth and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Forgotten Legacy" and "The Whispering Shadow". 8/5 out of 10.
