Roraima Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

1  Roraima arose from an idea he had to fuse Black Metal with some melodies of Venezuelan music, It also includes the national instrument, the "Cuatro Venezolano." It was something experimental I started with themes instrumental until it took shape and style

2.In March you had released a new album, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

2  This WR album adds vocals, compositions are faster and with more Atmospheric essence of Black Metal, but keeping the Venezuelan folk lines. There are also more presence of acoustic guitars that provide a certain natural environment.

3.The musical project started out as being instrumental before adding lyrics on later releases, can you tell us a little bit more about going into this musical direction?

3  Yes, at first it started as an instrumental project, I thought I should add more energy to Roraima and I decided to include the vocalist "T. Rodríguez" and myself in the clean voices, so that we could express our art more.

4.A lot of your lyrics deal with the ancestral heritage and folklore of your homeland, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

4  The idea is to rescue traditions and make them known to the world, we have a large number of stories told by our aborigines and also popular among the peoples of the country, it is something that fills me a lot and they are worthy of representing those stories in poetry.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Roraima'?

5  Roraima is one of the oldest geological formation places in the world, where it brings many mysteries and a lot of energy, I wanted to pay tribute to that beautiful place located in Venezuela and very close to Brazil and Guyana. Each Roraima album is dedicated to the nature of the country, its flora, fauna and landscapes.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

6  This cover is an image of the mountain "Waraira Repano", so called by the aboriginal ancestors and Also called in the city as "El Avila". This album is dedicated to that great mountain that is in me city and that I have visited a lot.

7.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding your line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

7  For now I work well as a duo, but I do not eliminate the possibility of including other members, whether national or international. Likewise, when the opportunity for a live event presents itself, I would look for musicians from session.

8.According to the facebook page you recently formed partnerships with 'Vacula' and 'Earth And Sky Productions', how did you get in contact with those labels?

8  I already knew them through the networks and they do an excellent production job on this new album that I wanted seek contact with them and they kindly accepted the proposal.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

9  The reception has been very positive, in the first two albums that were instrumental there were obviously other types of fans who really liked that musical concept, after this new WR album, it has been more received, since its sound is more Atmospheric Black Metal and the integration of the voices gave a greater impulse. Something that draws a lot of attention from Roraima is the interpretation of the folk instrument of Venezuela.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

10  I plan to further strengthen the folkcore of the compositions but keep the essence of Black Metal.Atmospheric, and will integrate more acoustic sounds. We will see how it will flow little by little since the ideas they come by surprise

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on the musical styles of 'Roraima'?

11  Of the musical styles it is mainly Venezuelan music as a base, its melodies open my mind to create some riffs and chords, artist from my country Vytas Brenner, foreign bands I like the essence of the Ulver's early albums, also Obtained Enslavement, Aeternus. They are bands that inspire their atmospheres.
