Withered Land are a solo project from Belarus that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording goes for an epic, atmospheric and symphonic form of black metal and this is a review of her 2025 album "Hall Of The Dead" which was released by Earth And Sky Productions.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the album you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. When synths are utilized they also give the music more of a symphonic feeling along with some of the tracks also being very long and epic in length, spoken words and whispers can also be heard briefly, a couple of songs are also instrumentals and clear singing is also added on the closing track.
On this recording Withered Land brings out a very atmospheric, epic and symphonic style of black metal. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover fantast, mythology, war and death themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding from Withered Land and if you are a fan of atmospheric, epic and symphonic black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dark Pale Winter" and "Hall Of The Dead". 8 out of 10.
