Rymr are a duo from Russia that plays a very melancholic and melodic style of atmospheric black metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 demo "Winter Wake".
Stmospheric style synths start off the ep along with some heavy yet melodic riffing a few seconds alter which also introduces high pitched depressive black metal screams onto the recording and they also mix the synths in with the heavier sections of the songs while the solos and leads also use a great amount of melody.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw feeling and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when clean playing is utilized it also gives the music a touch of post rock and acoustic guitars are added onto the closing track.
Rymr plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in the atmospheric style of black metal while also mixing in a great amount of depressive elements, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism, Mysticism, Mythology, Inner Feelings and Life Experiences themes.
In my opinion Rymr are a very great sounding melancholic and melodic atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Out Of The Depths I Have Cried" and "A Former Life". 8 out of 10.
