Dragon Smile are a band from France that plays an epic and atmospheric form of black metal mixed in with dungeon synth and this is a review of their self titled 2012 ep which was released by Kataboz Records.
The ep starts out with some dark and medieval synths along with some drum programming and you can also hear elements of classical music being added to the recording and when the band goes into the second song heavy guitars and black metal vocals are added in along with some ambient elements.
As the ep progresses the music starts getting a lot more atmospheric and epic sounding and when they go into the 3rd song elements of black metal are dropped and they go into a more dark dungeon synth direction and the black metal parts do not make a return until the 5th song and the ep closes with the marches of war.
Dragon Smile show a lot of darkness with their approach to dungeon synth and when they add in black metal influences they have a sound that reminds me of Fear of Eternity and Summoning while the music is a lot more ambient sounding than those bands that where mentioned.
Song lyrics cover pagan and medieval themes, while the production has a very dark, heavy and epic sound to it.
In my opinion Dragon Smile are a very great sounding of atmospheric black metal and dungeon synth and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band and ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Draudkar" and "Daradbyrht". 9 out of 10.
