Awaketh are a band from Spain that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2021 compilation album which will be released in May by Signal Rex and consists of both of their 2021 demos.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the compilation along with some demonic voices before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams that are mixed down low in the mix.
Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era while the songs also add in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very chaotic style along with a couple of the tracks also being long and epic in length as well as one of the songs also being an instrumental.
The songs on the second demo of this compilation continue the style presented on the first recording but with the vocals sounding more powerful as well as adding in a small amount of dark sounding melodies and all of the music on both recordings always sticks to a heavier direction, the two closing songs are also bonus tracks not presented on the demos and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly towards the end. The production sounds very dark and r aw while the lyrics cover Occultism, Luciferian and Darkness themes.
In my opinion Awaketh are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Horned Throne" "Blood magick" and "Burning Golgotha". 8 out of 10.
