Lunar Mantra are a band from Scotland that plays an atmospheric and ambient form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "Psychosomatika" which will be released in May by Invictus Productions.
A very dark and ritualistic sounding intro starts off the ep before going into a heavier musical direction while melodies are also added into some of the riffing. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music also having its atmospheric moments and the vocals are done in a deep black metal style.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the guitar leads being done in a very dark yet melodic style when they are utilized as well as some chants also being utilized briefly and the ep also closes with an ambient orientated instrumental which also adds in some touches of Tibetan music.
Lunar Mantra plays a style of occult black metal that is very atmospheric sounding along with some touches of dark ambient, ritual and ethnic music. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism, Esoteric and Illumination themes.
In my opinion Lunar Mantra are a very great sounding atmospheric and ambient occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Nexicthon". 8 out of 10.
