Vritrahn-Werwolf are a duo from Finland that plays a satanic form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2021 album which will be released in May by Werewolf Records.
A very hard and heavy sound starts off the album while also bringing in elements of punk rock along with the riffs also adding in some dark sounding melodies. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams as well as some spoken word parts also being utilized briefly and the clean vocals also add in touches of 80's era gothic and deathrock.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling along with the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the spoken word parts also giving the music more of a ritualistic feeling when they are utilized. When synths are utilized they also add in touches of the 90's era symphonic style as well as adding in more of an ambient side on later songs.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also add in more old school melodies and some of the tracks are also long and epic in length, as the album progresses an instrumental can also be heard before adding in a track that is more rooted in the war metal style as well as adding in some bestial growls. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Satanism, Blasphemy and Darkness themes.
In my opinion Vritrahn-Werwolf are a very great and original sounding satanic black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "End Of The Ages" "Blasphemous Metal" and "Crucifucked (S.S)". 8/5 out of 10.
