Berzerker are a duo from Austria that plays an old school form of black metal with elements of death and thrash metal and this is a review of their self released 2021 album "Pereat Mundus".
Epic sounding synths start off the album and also mix in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with most of the songs being very long and epic in length and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. A lot of the music is also very heavily rooted in t he 90's second wave and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some melodic chants also being utilized briefly, elements of death and thrash metal can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing as well as one song also adding in a brief use of acoustic guitars. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover the writings of H.P Lovecraft, Death, Darkness and Destruction themes.
In my opinion Berzerker are a very great sounding old school black metal duo with elements of death and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Immanentization Of Eschaton" "The Art Of Slaughter" and "Sacred Putrescence". 8 out of 10.
