This is a review of a split album between Denmark's Skinliv and Poland's Vermisst which will be released on January 31st 2022 by Nebular Carcoma and we will start off the review with Skinliv a band that plays a very raw and atmospheric form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very dark yet heavy sound while melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. Atmospheric sounding synths can also be heard briefly along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. The music also mixes in a great amount of 90's influences along with the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the solos and leads also remaining very true to an old school style. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Skinliv are a very great sounding raw and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I" and "IV".
Next up is Vermisst a band that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw and old school form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very dark yet heavy sound while melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. When keyboards are utilized they also give the songs more of an atmospheric feeling along with the vocals being mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams.
Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the mid 90's to early 200's era along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Both of their tracks are also very long and epic in length, throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and spoken word parts are also added on the second song. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Primeval Darkness, Cold Abyss of Death and Moon Spectres.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Vermisst and if you are a fan of atmospheric, old school and raw black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Incantations Of The Crimson Twilight".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric, old school and raw black metal. 8 out of 10.
