Death Shroud are a band from Virginia that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Death, Slavery And The Pursuit Ov Sadness" which was released by WormHoleDeath Records.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album along with some heavier riffing a few seconds later while the solos and leads are done in a very dark yet old school style. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast b eats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also being very heavily rooted in the mid 90's era as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them, growls can also be heard in some parts of the recording and a couple of the tracks also adds in a brief use of clean playing and synths.
Death Shroud plays a style of black metal that is very raw, melodic and old school sounding in the 90's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Death and Esoteric themes.
In my opinion Death Shroud are a very great sounding raw, melodic and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Death, Slavery And The Pursuit Ov Sadness" "Dreams That Haunt The Mind" and "Putrefactio". 8 out of 10.
