Electromancy are a musical project from Oakland, California that has been featured before in this zine and consists of one human being and a few robots and this recording plays a very experimental and technical form of black metal with some elements of death metal and this is a review of their album "Technopagan" which will be released in 2022 by Metal Assault Records.
A very mechanical sounding intro starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while synths can also be heard in some parts of the recording. Vocals are mostly angry yet high pitched black metal screams and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can also be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling while some tracks also add in a small amount of spoken word parts. Throughout the recording you can also h ear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast sections and at times the music also gets very experimental sounding.
The music also h as its avant garde moments while the riffs also go into more of a technical style on some of the tracks as well as the music also adding in a decent amount of death metal elements as well as one song also adding in a brief use of female vocals and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length, a later song is also an instrumental. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover struggling with disabilities, the uncertainty of their lifespan with chronic illness and spirituality themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Electromancy and if you are a fan of experimental and technical black metal with elements of death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Spark" "Glasshole" "Warpaint_Makeup" and "My Body Is Failing Me". 8 out of 10.
