Nocturnal Prayer are a band from Newfoundland, Canada that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their album "Mutilation On The Bed of Winter" which will be released in 2022 by Inferna Profundus Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the tracks also mix in a great amount of 90's influences.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also add in a small amount of melody. All of the musical instruments on the album also have a very powerful sound to them along with all of the music also sticking to a heavier direction, growls, spoken word parts and chants can also be heard briefly.
On this recording Nocturnal Prayer remains true to the raw and old school style of black metal they have established on previous releases. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover rituals, possession, absolute death and human agony themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nocturnal Prayer and if you are a f an of raw and old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Murder" "Forests Stained In Ritual" and "Lustrous As The First Star Of The Night". 8 out of 10.
