Pakkt are a band from an unknown area that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "To Brocken Heights" which will be released on December 24th by Van Records.
Ritualistic soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats.
When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The album is also very heavily rooted in the mid 80's to early 90's era and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic yet old school style.
Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with small amount of melody also being added into the guitar riffing at times and one of the songs also adds in a brief use of spoken word samples, clean playing can also be heard briefly on the background of a couple of the songs, clear vocals and acoustic gutiars are also added on the closing song. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism, Satanism and Witchcraft themes.
In my opinion Pakkt are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "To Brocken Heights Where Witches Dance" and "Circle Of Nameless Souls". 8 out of 10.
