Angr are a duo from Russia that plays a very aggressive form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2021 album "I".
Apocalyptic soundscapes start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
At times the riffs also get very dissonant sounding along with some of the tracks also adding in a small amount of clean playing as well as some death metal growls also being added into some parts of the recording, the music also has its atmospheric moments and synths can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the gloomy images of European culture during the pre-Christian period.
In my opinion Angr are a very great sounding dark and aggressive black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ymir" and "Hesychasm". 8 out of 10.
