Omniscience are a band from Brazil that plays a very epic and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Ancient Spell" which was released by Nero Corvino.
Epic sounding keyboards which also capture the atmosphere of a fantasy movie soundtrack or video game start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Rain and thunder sounds can also be heard briefly while the music also has its atmospheric moments.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When programmed beats are utilized they also give the songs more of a militant feeling along with the album also bringing in the use of a real drum kit and female vocals can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording.
Whispers and battle samples are also utilized briefly along with some of the riffing also adding in a small amount of melody as well as the guitar leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are added on one of the later tracks and the whole album also sticks to a slower direction, spoken word parts are also added on the closing song. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Magic: The Gathering and Landscapes.
In my opinion Omniscience are a very great sounding epic and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genres, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hedron's Landscape" "Travelers In Desecrated Land" and "Battle of the World". 8 out of 10.
