Kalt Vindur are a band from Poland that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a musical style they describe as being 'Subcarpathian black metal' and this is a review of their album "Magna Matter" which will be released in 2024 by The Circle Music.
Atmospheric sounding keyboards start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilzied they are also done in a very melodic style while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with some of the tracks also adding in some clean playing which also takes the music into more of a progressive direction.
Whispered vocals and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of acoustic guitars, Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs as well as one track also adding in a small amount of choir vocals, some of the heavier riffing also shows an influence of death metal and the closing track is an instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover man's struggle with his inner demons, weaknesses, Podkarpacie History, World War II, death, destruction and suffering.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Kalt Vindur and if you are a fan of progressive black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Magna Matter" and "Visions Of Purification". 8 out of 10.
