Velório are a solo project from Portugal that plays a very raw, symphonic and misanthropic from of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Extrema Unção" which was released by War Arts Productions.
A synth orientated intro starts off the album along with a brief use of choirs before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
The songs also add in a lot of old school influences as well as remaining very modern at the same time. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style, synths also mix in with the heavier sections of the songs at times which also gives the album more of a symphonic touch, spoken word parts can also be heard on a couple of songs.
Velório plays a style of black metal that is very raw, misanthropic and symphonic sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the realms where life and death converge.
In my opinion Velório are a very great sounding raw, misanthropic and symphonic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I I -II" and "I-I-V" and "I II-IIII". 8 out of 10.
