Am Himmel are a solo project from the Netherlands that plays a mixture of raw black, doom metal, drone and shoegaze and this is a review of his 2022 album "As Eternal As The Starless Kingdom Of Sorrow" which will be released in July by Burning World.
Distorted sounding drones start off the album which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Synths are also a very huge part of the recording while the vocals bring in a mixture of growls and grim black metal screams along with the slower parts of the tracks also adding in elements of doom metal.
All of the drum beats are also programmed while some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the music also bringing in touches of shoegaze as well as the riffs also adding in a great amount of rawness and all of the songs sticks to a slower direction.
Am Himmel plays a musical style that takes raw black, doom metal, drone and shoegaze and mixes them together to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover strange rituals in the gothic catacombs of Christianity and Insanity.
In my opinion Am Himmel is a very great sounding mixture of raw black, doom metal, drone and shoegaze and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Patience And Silence Of A Saints Death" and "As Eternal As The Starless Kingdom Of Sorrow". 8 out of 10.
