Hulder are a band from Seattle, Washington that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays an old school form of pagan black metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "The Eternal Fanfare" which will be released in July by 20 Buck Spin.
Dark sounding keyboards and fire burning start off the ep along with some ethereal sounding female vocals a few seconds later before going into a heavier musical direction. Grim black metal screams are also a very huge part of the recording and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast b eats can also be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. A lot of the music is also very heavily rooted in t he 90's era as well as keeping a very modern atmosphere and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style, at times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding.
On this recording Hulder expands on their pagan style of black metal by adding in some more atmospheric and ethereal touches which are also different from the previous full length. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover medieval, torture and Belgian folklore themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Hulder and if you are a fan of old school pagan black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Burden Of Flesh And Bone" and "A Perilous Journey". 8 out of 10.
