Agos are a duo from Greece that plays a very raw and occult mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2015 ep "Irkalla Transcendence" which was released by III Damnation Productions.
A very dark and heavy death metal influenced sound starts off the ep along with a great mixture of both grim growls and black metal screams and a few seconds later morbid sounding melodies are added into the music and the solos and leads that are utilized display a great amount of talent and skill and after awhile the music starts to speed up a bit.
Throughout the recording you can hear elements of early 90's occult black metal being mixed in with old school death metal elements but done with a production that gives the music more of an up to date feeling and all 3 of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the music also sticks to mostly a slow or mid paced musical direction while there are some fast riffs and blast beats being utilized at times and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the ep closes with female vocals that are all melodic and ritualistic chants.
Agos takes a style of occult black metal and adds in some of the heavier side of old school death metal to create a sound of their own, the production sound s very dark, powerful and heavy sounding while the lyrics cover Sumerian Civilization, Mythology, Occultism, Gnosis and Death themes.
In my opinion Agos are a very great sounding dark, heavy and occult mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Akkadian Cenotaph". 8 out of 10.
