Suhnopher are a 1 man band from France that plays a very raw and melodic style of black metal and this is a review of his 2014 album "Offertoire" which was released on cassette by Les Acteurs de l'Ombre Productions.
A very melodic and epic sound starts off the album before going into more of a fast and raw black metal direction along with some blast beats and depressive black metal screams and the music also mixes in melody and a small amount of clean singing and chants on some of the tracks in with the faster sections of the music which is also heavily rooted in the 90's style of melodic black metal.
After awhile the songs start bringing in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the solos and leads that are used on this recording remain true to the melodic black metal style that is found on all of the tracks while also demonstrating a great amount of talent and skill and a good portion of the songs are very long and epic in length.
On some of the tracks classical guitars can be heard in certain sections of the recording and as the album progresses the faster and heavier sections of some of the song s bring in elements of thrash metal and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and there is also a acoustic guitar track which adds in more of a medieval atmosphere while the following tracks see the music returning to more of a raw and melodic style of black metal.
Suhnopfer plays a style of black metal that is very raw and melodic and also brings in a Swedish feel at times while also making his music more original by adding in a depressive black metal vocal approach to create a sound of his own, the production sounds very dark, raw and heavy sounding while the lyrics cover Anti Religion, Misanthropic and Nihilism themes.
In my opinion Suhnopfer are a very great sounding fast, raw and melodic black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Offertoire" "Majestuexe Repaire" and "Messe Des Mortis". 8 out of 10.
