Ashen Horde are a band from Hollywood, California that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a dissonant and technical form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 ep "The Alchemist".
A very heavy and dissonant sound starts off the ep along with some grim yet high pitched black metal screams a few seconds later and the music is more rooted in a modern era of the genre while also mixing in a decent amount of melodic and progressive riffing and the solos and elads are done in a technical fashion.
Deep growling vocals can be heard in the background and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while also keeping everything heavy.
On this recording Ashen horde plays a style of black metal that is very modern, dissonant, technical and progressive sounding, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover alchemical and philosophical themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ashen horde and if you are a fan of dissonant black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Fallen". 8 out of 10.
