Hesperia/Caesar[Roma Vol.I]/Sleaszy Rider Records/2017 CD Review

  Hesperia  are  a  solo  project  from  Italy  that  plays  an atmospheric  form  of  pagan/black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2017  album  "Caesar[Roma Vol.I]"  which  was  released  by  Sleaszy  Rider  Records.

  Epic sounding  synths  and  spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  album  along  bringing  in  a  historical  Roman  feeling  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  and  melodic  direction  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  both  the  atmospheric  and  heavy  parts  get  mixed  together  at  times.

  When  vocals  are  utilized  they  have  a  spoken  feeling  while  also  keeping  around  the  grim  side  of  black  metal  and  clean  singing  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  sticking  to  a  more  melodic  direction and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  Bronze  Age  era  atmosphere  at  times  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  folk  instruments.

  There  is  also  an  instrumental  track before  returning  back  to  vocals  while  some  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  and  as  the  album  progresses  elements  of  speed  and  traditional  metal  can  be  heard  on  some  of  the  songs  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  a couple  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  there  is  also a   brief  use  of  operatic  female  vocals  and the  synths  also  add  in  a  touch  of  70's  progressive  rock  at  times  and  they  also  bring  in  a  cover  of  Iron  Maiden's  "Ides  To  March".

  Hesperia  plays  a  style  of  pagan/black  metal  that  is  very  epic  and  atmospheric  while  also  adding  in  a great  amount  of  originality  to  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  The Aeneid,  and  Italian  History.

  In  my  opinion  Hesperia  are  a  very  great  original  sounding  pagan/black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  looking  for  something  different,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Trivmviratvm"  "Roma"  "Romana  Conspiratio  (Tema  di  Bruto)"  and  "Ivlivs  Caesar  (Divvs et  Mythvs)".  8  out  of  10.
