Funeralbloom are a band from Texas that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of post black metal, shoegaze, sludge and doom metal and this is a review of their 2017 ep "The Romance Of Crime & Your Beautiful Bones" which was released as a joint effort between Broken World Media, Close Quarters Coalition and Hybrid Records.
A very heavy doom metal sound along with melodic singing starts off the ep along with some elements of shoegaze and post rock while both of the tracks are very long and epic in length and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and ambient style synths are also used at times.
Spoken word parts and atmospheric elements can be heard in some parts of the music and after awhile clean guitars are added onto the recording and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can be heard along with some black metal screams in the background which also start getting more powerful as the ep progresses and the fast tremolo picking also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
Funeralbloom creates a recording that keeps the atmospheric and post black metal style from their previous release and adds in elements of sludge, doom metal and shoegaze to take their music to a different level, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Funeralbloom and if you are a fan of post black metal, shoegaze, sludge and doom metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Your Beautiful Bones". 8 out of 10.
