Denial Of God are a band from Denmark that has been around for more than 20 years and plays black horror metal and this is a review of their 2019 ep "The Shapeless Mass" which will be released in June as a joint effort between Osmose Productions and Hells Headbangers.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the ep while melodic guitar leads are also a very huge part of the recording. Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with a couple of the tracks being very long and epic in length as well as all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Clean playing can also be heard briefly on one of the tracks while the music has a lot of roots in the 90's but still captures a more modern aggression, when spoken word parts are used briefly they give the music more of a ritualistic feeling and they close the ep with Bathory and Exuma covers. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Horror, The Afterlife and Spirit themes.
In my opinion Denial Of God are a very great sounding black horror metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Statues Are Watching" and "Mama Loi, Papa Loi". 8/5 out of 10.
