1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
Yes, Hails! we are Grimdor we play a very Lofi and Raw style of Black Metal and Dungeon Synth music or "Dark Ambient music" for those that don't know, only influenced by the world of J.R.R Tolkien.
2.Recently you have released a new ep, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
Our first EP [The Lonely Mountain] we had a few influences in mind but we wanted specially to sound like a mixture of Isengard, Burzum, and Mortiis and the early second wave of Black Metal, for the second EP [Stone of the Hapless] Due to a very tight schedule and personal reasons Narzug is absent on the album but I quickly recruited three very talented friends to fill in for the album's vocal duties and they are the masterminds behind Lord Einsamkeit, Coniferus Myst and Erythrite Throne, very influential and important musicians in the Dungeon Synth movement, musically this album had to be different from the first because I did not want to repeat the same album over again, this is a different album with a different story so I took it as a challenge to write very different type of songs, adding more influences while trying to keep the traditional sound alive, look out for it on early July on Akashic Envoy Records.
3.The lyrics are based upon the writings of J.R.R Tolkien, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in his work and also are there any other authors that have had an influence on your songwriting?
Me and Grimdor are big fans of Tolkien and well we want keep the lyrics influenced only on Tolkien's work because that was the original idea, we do not write about any other topics because we do not want to mix ourselves with other politics in this band, it is not important to us.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Grimdor'?
Grimdor are two words I [Grimdor] put together, it means Fierce Lord in Elvish tongue, nothing special.
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
Yes, the artwork features a very gloomy and broken Turin Turumbar done by Heraldo Mussolini a very talented artists who gave us permission to use it, we had a few album covers in mind but we are glad we went with this one, everyone seems to love it.
6.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?
We would like to remain a duo for now.
7.One member lives in Germany while the other one lives in the United States, what kind of impact does this have on your musical style?
We live in two very different places , different wheaters and all, Narzug lives in a very green and rainy area in Germany while I live in the hollow Arizona desert in the US so that also influences us. We do not care to play live so being far apart has no impact on our band but it doesn't mean one day we won't do it, you never know.
8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal and dungeon synth?
Both have been very welcoming, both Back Metal and Dungeon Synth fans seem to like the mixture and enjoy what we do.
9.Are any of the band members also involved with any other bands or musical projects?
We would not like to discuss that.
10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Our next album might take a while but we keep writing constantly, A third full Dungeon Synth style only EP might drop before it. Who knows.. and musically we would like to keep our sound and original ideas.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We listen to everything and share so much music with each other it would be impossible to name all the type of stuff we listen to, but for the most part we try to keep Grimdor with that old school early second wave of Black Metal and Dungeon Synth style, that is very important to us.
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Yes long live Tolkien!, Black Metal! and hail the Dungeon Synth movement! and thanks to everyone who supports us.
