Imperator is a solo project from Mexico that plays an experimental form of depressive black metal and this is a review of his self released 2019 album "V".
Classical guitars and ambient style synths start off the album and after the intro the music goes into a heavier direction. Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody. Classical guitars also return on some of the alter tracks and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the interlude also introducing rain and thunder sounds onto the recording before returning back to a heavier direction. A the album progresses a brief use of demonic growls can be heard.
At times the musical also gets very experimental sounding as well as one track also bringing elements of electronic music onto the recording and the album closes with a harsh noise outro. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover nostalgia, poetry, sexuality, nature and negativity themes and one of the tracks is written in Spanish.
In my opinion Imperator are a very great sounding experimental black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out t his album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Behind the Wheel" "Temptation" and "Clutched to The Illusion of Feel". 8 out of 10.
