Tristengrav are a band from Greece that plays a very old school form of black metal with soem elements of crust punk, gothic and death rock and this is a review of their 2019 ep "II - Nychavge" which will be released on June 22nd by Caligari Records.
Clean playing starts off the album and they also add elements of goth and death rock onto the recording when they are utilized as well as a small amount of synths also being used at times. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the music also mixes in elements of d beat and crust punk as well as being influenced by both the first and second wave eras of the genre. Melodic are also added into some of the guitar riffing and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them along with the guitar leads being done in a very melodic and old school style when they are utilized and as the ep progresses a brief use of clean playing can also be heard. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism and Dionysian themes.
In my opinion Tristengrav are a very great sounding old school black emtal group with elements of crust punk, gothic and death rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Becoming" and "Pitch Black Catacombs". 8 out of 10.
