Monarque are a solo project from Quebec, Canada that plays a very brooding and emotional form of black metal and this is a review of his 2019 ep "Jusqu 'a la Mort" which will be released on June 24th by Sepulchral Productions.
Ritualistic spoken word parts start off the ep before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while the solos and leads are done in a very dark and melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them. Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the music also gets very atmospheric and melodic sounding at times, keyboards and acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly and folk instruments can also be heard on the closing track.
Monarque plays a style of black metal that is very raw, melodic and atmospheric sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover Satanism, Blasphemy, Hatred and Death themes.
In my opinion Monarque are a very great sounding brooding and emotional black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Le Grand Deuill". 8 out of 10.
