Wulkanaz are a solo project from Sweden that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of his self titled 2018 album which will be released on November 26th by Helter Skelter Productions.
Spoken word parts start off the album before going into more of a heavier punk influenced direction while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with the faster sections of the songs also bringing in a great amount of blast beats and the solos and leads are done in a very raw and chaotic style.
Most of the tracks are very short in length while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them as well as the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody, when tremolo picking is utilized it gives the music more of a raw feeling, when spoken word parts are utilized they add in more of a ritualistic atmosphere and as the album progresses elements of folk, noise and dark ambient can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and a couple of tracks also introduces acoustic guitars onto the recording.
Wulkanaz plays a style of black metal that is very raw yet original at the same time along with some elements of punk, noise, ambient and folk but mostly focusing on a heavier direction, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover Dark Germanic Heathenism themes.
In my opinion Wulkanaz are a very great original sounding black metal solo project and if toy are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Margananens Vav" "Lykta och Bloss" "Dvalma i Dvas" and "Bixmullin". 8 out of 10.
