Germany's Ancst have returned with a new recording which continues their mixture of melodic black metal and crust and this is a review of their 2018 ep "Abolitionist" which will be released on November 16th by Lifeforce Records.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the vocals are in between black metal screams and hardcore style shouts as well as the music also mixing in a great amount of crust elements and the riffs also add in a great amount of melody.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style as well as a couple of songs also adding in a small amount of spoken word samples and synths are added onto the closing track which is also very long and epic in length.
Ancst creates another recording that remains true to their mixture of melodic black metal and crust, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover personal themes, social criticism and anti capitalism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ancst and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Vicious Cycle"and "The old Darkness". 8 out of 10.
