Onirica are a solo project from Italy that plays an atmospheric form of black metal with some elements of dark metal and this is a review of his 2021 album "Burn The Ashes" which will be released on July 12th as a joint effort between Vcula and BMC Productions.
Tragic sounding keyboards and atmospheric soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier direction while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody.
Clear vocals can also be heard in some parts of the recording while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with some songs also adding in a small amount of clean playing.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some whispered vocals also being utilized briefly as well as some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length, influences of the 90's second wave era and dark metal elements are also mixed in with the more modern and atmospheric side of the music and as the album progresses a brief use of spoken word parts and post rock touches can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover subservience to forces greater than any one person can restrain.
In my opinion Onirica are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal solo project with some elements of dark metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Time In My Hands" "The Violent Bear It Away" and "Songs Of Chaos". 8 out of 10.
