This is a review of a split ep between Italy's Thecodontion and United Kingdom's Vessel Of Iniquity called The Permian-Triassic Extinction Event" which will be released in September by Thecodontion a duo who return with an atmospheric mixture of black and death metal.
Their side of the split stats out with a very dark and heavy sound while the bass guitars are used as a lead instrument, Melodic guitar leads can also be heard briefly along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a great amount of blast beats, war metal and grindcore elements and the vocals bring in a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams, throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The production sounds very dark and heavy and the lyrics cover pre-historic creatures.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Thecodontion and if you are a fan of atmospheric black and death metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Thecodontosaurus Antiquus".
Next up is Vessel Of Iniquity a solo project that returns with his raw mixture of black metal and harsh noise.
His side of the split starts out with a very fast and raw war metal sound which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Harsh noises are also mixed in with the heavier section of the song which is also 11 minutes in length along with the vocals also adding in a great amount of high pitched black metal screams before going into more of a power electronics orientated direction as well as adding in some slower sections. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the pre-historic extinction.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Vessel Of Iniquity and if you are a fan of raw black metal and harsh noise, you should check out his side of the split.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of black, death metal and harsh noise. 8 out of 10.
