Sweden's solo project DÖMD has returned with a new recording which continues the raw style of black metal from previous releases and this is a review of their self released 2021 demo "Under jorden en stjärnhimmel".
Angry sounds start off the demo before adding in some high pitched black metal screams which also takes the music into a heavier direction. During the faster sections of the songs a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be be heard which also gives the tracks more of a raw feeling.
The songs also add in a decent amount of 90's influences while the vocals also have their deeper moments. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also having its lo-fi moments as well as all of the riffing being done on power chords and the demo closes with a cover of Johnny Cash' and Nine Inch Nails "Hurt" which also adds in some acoustic guitars and clean vocals.
On this recording DÖMD returns true to the raw style of black metal that he has established on previous releases. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover Gotlandic Heathenism.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from DÖMD and if you are a fan of raw black metal, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Under jorden en stjärnhimmel" and "Bödelns blick känner jag igen". 8 out of 10.
