Malignament are a solo project from Finland that plays a traditional form of Finnish black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Hypocrisis Absolution" which will be released in September by Primitive Reaction.
Rain, thunder and wind sounds start off the album along with demonic voices a few seconds alter before going into a heavier direction. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams while the solos and leads are also done in a very dark yet melodic style and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. Melodic vocals can also be heard briefly along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the tracks also bringing in a good balance between old school and modern influences and the whole album also sticks to a heavier direction.
Malignament plays a style of black metal that is very raw, aggressive and melodic sounding in the Finnish tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness and chaos themes.
In my opinion Malignament are a very great sounding traditional Finnish black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Call To Arms" "Unforgiving North" and "Bloodlust And Immortality". 8 out of 10.
