This is a review of a compilation album from Snow Wolf Records called "This Wretched Earth" which will be released in August by Snow Wolf Records which consists of black metal bands and we will review the songs one by one.
Canada's Spectral Dance brings us "Black metal invasion" which starts out with some heavy riffing while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. Most of the music is also heavily rooted in the 90's second wave era along with some 80's style first wave touches as well as the riffs also adding in a small amount of dark sounding melodies.
Egypt's Of Two Lands brings us "Worth" which starts out with a very fast and raw sound which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. The song also mixes in a lot of 90's influences while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and a small amount of melody is also added into some of the riffing.
Iran's Akvan brings us "IR 655" which starts out with some grim black metal screams and heavy riffing while avant garde sections and atmospheric sounds can also be heard at times along with the solos and leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic style and when the music speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Poland's Mistral brings us "Stasis" which starts out with some heavy riffing while also capturing a very lo-fi atmosphere. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with a small amount of dark sounding melodies and towards the end a brief use of clean playing and synths can also be heard.
Malaysia's Gestorven brings us "It Lan Fan Dreamen" which starts out with some dark sounding melodies while the faster sections of the song also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Chile's Funeral brings us "Decadencia Total (sombras)" which starts out with some heavy yet dark riffing while the faster sections of the song also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling and the track also adds in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Egypt's Lycopolis brings us "Great One From The Throne" which starts out with some heavy riffing while also being heavily rooted in the 90's era along with the faster sections of the song also adding in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the track more of a raw feeling, melodies are also added into the riffing as well as the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Australia's Drugoth brings us "The Ire Of Shograath" which starts out with some heavy and old school riffing while the faster sections of the song also adds in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling and the vocals also add in a mixture of angry black metal screams and deep growls.
Columbia's Melabstra brings us "Guerra Animal" which starts out with some heavy riffing and keyboards which also adds in some symphonic touches while the vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and deep growls and when the music speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the song more of a raw feeling, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
Hungary's Nekrofilia brings us "Langokban Elveszejtve" which starts out with a very fast and raw sound which also adds in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the song also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, melodies are also added into some of the riffing.
U.S.A's Starer brings us "Five Minutes Before Dawn" which starts out with some heavy yet dark riffing while also adding in some keyboards which also gives the song more of an atmospheric feeling along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can also be heard, melodies are also added into some of the riffing and clear vocals can also be heard briefly.
Greece's Odyrmos brings us "Silver Stars" which starts out with more of a dungeon synth style which is also mixed in with the more heavier and melodic side of the song and the track is all instrumental and sticks to mostly a slow or mid tempo style.
U.S.A's Pulsa diNura brings us "Humanity's Tomb" which starts out with some synths and industrial style beats which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the song while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can also be heard.
Russia's Astarium brings us "Kill To Survive II" which starts out with some heavy riffing mixed in with some symphonic elements while t he faster sections of the song also add in a decent amount of blast beats along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and guitar leads can also be heard briefly towards the end.
India's Sound Of Emptiness brings us "Dreams That Feel Like A Blurry Memory" which starts out with some tragic sounding keyboards along with some programmed beats a minute later and the song is all instrumental.
Ukraine's Haissem's close the compilation with "Deus Vult" which starts out with some heavy yet melodic riffing while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. The track is also over 10 minutes in length and when the music speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the song more of a raw feeling, clean vocals and spoken word parts can also b e heard b riefly.
In conclusion I feel this is a v ery great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of black metal.
