Agrypnie are a band from Germany that plays a very progressive form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Metamorphosis" which will be released on July 30th by AOP Records.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album along with some keyboards a few seconds later which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams while a great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can also be heard while the tremolo picking also gives the songs more of a raw feeling when it is utilized. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when clean playing is utilized it also gives the tracks more of a progressive feeling.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with some whispers also being utilized briefly as well as the songs also mixing in a great amount of post rock elements, one of the tracks also introduces melodic vocals onto the album. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover dreams, loneliness and philosophy themes.
In my opinion Agrypnie are a very great sounding progressive post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Wir Ertrunkenen" "Skulptur aus Eis" "Melatonin" and "Am Ende der Welt - Tell 2". 8 out of 10.
