This is the final review of a recording from When Woods Make Graves with the music still being a mixture of atmospheric and ambient black metal with the album being called "Whispers From The Black Lake" and self released in 2013.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown into the music, while the synths bring a very dark, atmospheric and ambient sound to the recording as well as a brief use of drone elements along with some instrumentals, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast atmospheric black metal riffs that are alot more raw and primitive sounding this time around while still maintaining a good amount of melody in the riffing as well as a brief use of soft and clean playing, while the lead guitars when they are utilized are very melodic sounding black metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars which are only used briefly use finger picking to enhance the dark atmosphere of the album.
Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics cover nature, occultism, mysticism and mythology, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound with the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from When Woods Makes Graves and if you are a fan of atmospheric and ambient sounding black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "To Feast On The Dead With Nothing But Crows For My Company" and "Adorned In Moonlight". RECOMMENDED BUY.
