Ethereal Shroud are a solo project from the United Kingdom that plays an atmospheric mixture of depressive black and funeral doom metal and this is a review of his self released 2021 album "Trisgion".
Dark soundscapes start off the album along with some atmospheric sounding synths a few seconds later which also mix in with the heavier side of the songs at times. Stringed instruments can also be heard briefly while the slower sections of the music also bring in elements of funeral doom metal.
All 3 of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling along with the vocals being mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them, death emtal growls are also a very huge part of the album. Clean playing can also be heard on most of the tracks and female vocals can also be heard briefly, on the closing song clear male vocals can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover anti fascism, anti indoctrination and complex personal struggles.
In my opinion Ethereal Shroud are a very great sounding atmospheric mixture of depressive black and funeral doom/death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Astral Mariner". 8 out of 10.
