Frostnatt are a solo project from Russia that has been featured before in this zine and plays an atmospheric and instrumental form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2021 compilation album "Vinterens Kaldeste Natt" which consists of re-recorded tracks from his 2019 ep's "Om Vinteren" and "Rimfrost".
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can also be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the album more of a raw feeling while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. Clean playing can also be heard in some parts of the recording along with the tracks also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the music also avoiding the use of vocals or songwriting and he compilation also has its atmospheric moments, a couple of the songs are also very long and epic in length
On this compilation Frostnatt plays a style of black metal that is very modern, raw and atmospheric sounding as well as keeping everything instrumental while the production also sounds very dark and raw.
In my opinion this is a very great sounding collection from Frostnatt and if you are a f an of atmospheric and instrumental black metal, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Om Vinteren" "Rimfrost" "Vinterlandskap" and "Vinterens Kaldeste Natt. 8 out of 10.
