Rift are a solo project form Australia that plays a very epic, atmospheric and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of his 2021 album "To Quench The Thirst Of The Wolves" which will be released in December by Seance Records.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album along with some melodic riffing a few seconds later before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the music also has its atmospheric and epic moments and the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style while the songs also add in decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Clean playing can also be heard on some of the tracks along with the music also adding in a good mixture of both old school and modern influences.
A couple of the songs being very long and epic in length along with one track also being an instrumental, synths can also be heard briefly and as the album progresses a brief use of classical guitars can be heard. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover lycanthropy, the legend of the werewolf, folklore, mysticism and witchcraft themes.
In my opinion Rift are a very great sounding atmospheric, epic and melodic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of t his musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Acolyte Of Worms" "Graven Solace" and "Posthumous Rapture". 8 out of 10.
