Korsakov are a duo from France that plays post black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Погружать" which will be released on November 26th by Source Atone Records.
Dark sounding synths start off the album and also give the music more of an atmospheric feeling while also mixing in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic post metal style and the faster sections of the recording also add in a great amount of blast beats.
When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with one of the tracks also being an instrumental which also add in elements of ambient onto the album as well as a later song also introducing clean playing onto the album, programmed beats can also be heard briefly and some songs also add in drones and the closing song also adds in some acoustic guitars and spoken word parts. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the exploration of the depths of one's own fantasized memory and its most complex testimonies.
In my opinion Korsakov are a very great sounding post black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I" and "VI". 8 out of 10.
