Gorr are an international duo with members from Norway and the United States that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw form of black metal with elements of doom and death emtal and this is a review of their self released 2021 ep "Tolv I Talet" which will be released in December.
Battle sounding horns start off the ep before going into a heavier direction while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Elements of doom metal can also b e heard in the slower sections of the songs along with the vocals being mostly grim y et high pitched sounding black metal screams.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the solos and leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic style when they are utilized.
Some of the riffing also shows an influence of early 90's era death metal along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as each track also sounding very different from each other. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Norwegian and cover Norse mythology, Loss and Struggle themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Gorr and if you are a fan of raw black metal with elements of doom and death metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Like vakkert som grusomt" and "Slik lyder soga om folket på saltsteinen". 8 out of 10.
