Sylvan Awe are a duo from Australia that plays a very aggressive and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Transcend" which was released by Northern Silence Productions.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while the vocals are mostly high pitched yet angry sounding black metal screams. Melodies are also added into a lot of the guitar riffing along with all of the musical instruments on the recording and the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats.
When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. One song also adds in a brief use of classical guitars along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length.
When guitar solos and leads are u5tilized they are also done in a very melodic style, as the album progresses a brief use of synths can also be heard along the music also having its atmospheric moments as well as a later song also adding in a brief use of clean playing. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover nature and heritage themes.
In my opinion Sylvan Awe are a very great sounding aggressive and melodic black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Overcome" "Zenth" and "Winter". 8 out of 10.
