Finland's Tyhja have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a more traditonal Finnish style of black metal with some elements from t heir crust influenced past and this is a review of t heir album "Valtakunta" which will be released in 2022 as a joint effort between Void Wanderer and Humanity's Plague Productions.
A very heavy yet melodic sound starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals a re mostly high pitched black metal screams while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while elements of crust can also be heard at times. The songs also mix influences form both the modern and old school era's along with one song also adding in a brief use of spoken word parts as well as some of the riffing also adding in more dissonant structures on later tracks and all of the music also sticks to a heavier direction.
On this recording Tyhja goes for a more traditional Finnish style of black metal as well as adding in some touches of crust and dissonant structures which also makes the music stand out a lot more. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Finnish and cover humanity's tendency to think something being immortal, everlasting or the very peak of evolution.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Tyhja and if you are a fan of Finnish black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Vain Yksi Voi Olla" "Valtakunta" and "Imperiumien Hauta". 8 out of 10.
