Vita odiosa are a solo project from Italy that has been featured before in this zine and plays an ambient form of depressive black metal and this is a review of his 2021 album "L'Estasi Del Trapasso" which will be released on November 30th by Lupus Niger Prod. And Distro.
A very dark, heavy and lo-fi sound starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the synths also bringing in elements of ambient and the music also has its atmospheric moments.
Melodies are also added in some of the guitar riffing while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with some of the songs also adding in a decent amount of stringed instruments as well as all of the drum beats also being programmed.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style as well as some acoustic guitars also being utilized briefly. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Italian and cover sorrow, desperation and death themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Vita Odiosa and if you are a fan of ambient and depressive black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Maschera" and "L'Estasi Del Trapasso". 8 out of 10.
