Hertless are a solo project from Scotland that plays a very depressive form of post black metal and this is a review of his 2017 album "Lifeless" which was released by Death Prayer Records.
Clean playing starts off the album while whispers and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly long with the music also adding in elements of indie and post rock. The music also adds in a very minimalist approach at times along with the recording also going into a heavier direction on the third track.
Vocals are mostly grim yet depressive sounding black metal screams while the songs also add in a decent amount of programmed beats. On one of the tracks the music also brings in more of a militant and experimental vibe along with one song also being an instrumental and melancholic sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing.
One track is being very long and epic in length and when the music finally speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can b e heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling as well as some atmospheric sounding drones also being added on the outro. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover depression, suicide and hopelessness themes.
In my opinion Hertless are a very great sounding depressive black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Bittersweet" and "Enduring". 8 out of 10.
